As of 2014, California was considered in a state of extreme drought. Luckily, most of California is out of severe drought conditions with the exception of Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. Although California is not in a D3 extreme drought conditions, saving as much water as possible is still a smart idea. There are several ways as to why a sustainable garden would positively impact the environment, but the most compelling would be the amount of water that will be saved, utilizing surroundings to compost, and using native plants to create a picturesque landscape.
As a Conservation Coach for Walnut Creek Saves Ariana Montalvo has learned many skills to help guide her through life. She has learned these skills through many outreach opportunities and in-home consultations. At every new outreach event that Walnut Creek Saves attends she learns how to have a professional conversation with strangers, marketing skills, and I am able to educate Walnut Creek residents on how to better conserve water and energy.

Walnut Creek Saves is a City of Walnut Creek program that was created to help better our community. Our goals are to boost the economy in Walnut Creek, lower residents’ water and energy bills, and of course make the environment a cleaner and safer place. We hope to accomplish these goals by offering free in-home consultations, attending outreach events, and hoping that residents spending their savings locally.
