Working as a Conservation Coach for Walnut Creek Saves has been an educational opportunity like no other for Natalie Ahearn. Talking to residents and members of the community about the Walnut Creek Saves program is an easy and fun way to get the word out and sign people up for consultations. In this article, Natalie Ahearn will explain some of those points that don’t get fully explained at our booths.
The short answer is energy, water, and money! Walnut Creek Saves was created through a collaboration between the City of Walnut Creek and the private company WattzOn. After realizing that 18% of greenhouse emissions in Walnut Creek were due to the residents, the City of Walnut Creek set out to adopt a residential energy efficiency program and tackle the excess residential energy and water usage.
Walnut Creek Saves is dedicated to helping residents lower their utility usage in order to save money and reduce our impact on the environment. The City of Walnut Creek created a Climate Action plan that aims to reduce our carbon output by 2020, and every consultation we complete is pushing our city towards its goals. We have already completed over 120 free consultations and met hundreds of community members that are interested in how they can save!
